The “Godspeed”

In the Spring of 2020, I was blessed with the opportunity to purchase the “Miss Kathleen” from Capt. Ronnie O’Neal.  Ronnie had the boat built new in 1980 by the Rose brothers, in Harkers Island, NC.  The boat was used year round for charter and commercial fishing out of Ocracoke, NC, and was Ronnie’s “baby”.

I realized the opportunity to buy a solid custom boat that had been well maintained, and would work perfect for me to re-name and continue with an inshore fishing business.

The Godspeed is a 34’ fishing machine built substantially out of 1 1/8” juniper planking and a noble epoxy/fiberglass skin over the planking.  She is powered by a Caterpillar 3208 diesel.

Although ½ day, inshore charters are our specialty, full day trips to the Gulf Stream are available on pretty days.  Cobia and red drum charters are available in the spring, while Spanish mackerel and bluefish keep us busy with families most of the summer.  King mackerel fishing in the fall is quite popular as well.

When I bought the boat, I was happy to have my son Simon working for me.  He has since moved on to pursue his career as an EMT.  I am proud to introduce Emma, my current and future 1st mate (as long as she keeps me).   She’s a hard worker, die-hard fisherman, and refuses to be beaten by the “boys”!  Ya’ll will love her!

Plan a trip with us next time you are in town.  We’ll have a blast and catch some fish!
