Gettin' Ready

Posted By Captain Dave in fishing | Permalink | Comments
I took the last couple of days to haul out and get my pre-season boat work done.

The weather could have been a little more cooperative, but we managed to clean and paint the bottom, have the wheel tuned up, replace the zincs, wash the hull, and back over this morning. Now, we are ready to rock. I snapped a couple of pictures before I left the boatyard, thought you would enjoy. Hope to hear from you soon about your 2009 reservation!

Snow!

Posted By Captain Dave in fishing | Permalink | Comments
It's been snowing on and off all day, but in the last hour the temperature has dropped, and the snow is starting to stick.

I'll update more, but I wanted to snap a shot before it got dark, as Andrea and Simon romped around in the front yard.
Hopefully we will get out fishing this weekend, it's been a while, and I feel the need to kill some fish!

Here are some from this morning "the day after"! Simon is an early riser, and was ready to play in the snow first thing! Now, this may be "whatever" to you, but for us, it's a big event!

January B-Liners

Posted By Captain Dave in fishing | Permalink | Comments
After a long stretch of windy weather, we went out today to try our hand at commercial kingfishing again, but we didn't have any luck.

I will say that for the last month or more, the blackfin tuna fishing has been great. Not too many boats have had charters, but it has been pretty consistant trolling bites and bites on the vertical jigs. The fish have been mostly 20- 35 pounders, a lot of fun on the jigs.
Since we weren't having any luck with the mackerels today, we decided to drop to the bottom and get dinner. The b-liners (vermillion snappers) were biting plenty good, and we caught plenty to feed us for a few days, and some for the freezer. It would be a good time to go fishing.....unless you don't like tuna and bottom fish!
