Smorgasbord

We had good action today, and quite a variety.

Our first bite of the morning, and it was only moments after we started, was a sailfish. Unfortunately we weren't successful in landing him...but it was early. Next we found a couple schools of bailer dolphin, and were able to limit out with no problem. After a short lull, we had another sailfish encounter. We got to wrestle with this one for a while, and enjoyed several great jumps, but he managed to escape as well. My guys enjoyed seeing both of the fish just the same. A little later we caught one wahoo out of a doubleheader bite, and finished up the afternoon by catching three yellowfin tunas in one whack. I'm sure these guys will rest well tonight, too bad their buddies backed out on them and they had to catch all the fish themselves. I wonder if they will share the meat?

We're Back!

Finally, we made it out for a great day in the gulfstream.

After days of north to northeast wind, the change from green to blue water was out 30 miles. We fished in that general area for the morning, and wound up with a limit of dolphin, ranging from small bailers to small gaffers, and a lot of nice bailers in between. We never had any other kind of bites, but out of the four of us who were out, there were two wahoos caught and one sailfish. We are headed back out tomorrow, so check back in!

Nor'Easter

The wind is blowing 40+ out of the northeast, so nobody is fishing today, but the weekend forcast looks promising.

There was one day (Monday), that a few boats made it out on the day between northeasters. It looked like the dolphin fishing continued to be pretty good, as I watched limits of bailers hit the dock. If the marine forcast holds true, the weekend looks like it should be pretty nice, it'll be about time! Anyway, I am available all weekend so if you decide you want to get in a day's fishing, give me a call!

Great Make-Up Party

Posted By Captain Dave in Fishing | Permalink | Comments
We ventured out, in spite of the windy conditions, and made it worth while with some great fishing.

I gave my group a good ''talking to'' this morning about the wind and sea conditions. It had been blowing 20-25 northeast all night, and was expected to breeze all day, so I wanted everybody to make a educated decision. They all voted to head on out, and I couldn't have been happier. I just wish there had been some other boats out to share in the great fishing! The only other boat that left was the Miss Hatteras, and he had a great day of bottom fishing as well. Anyway, we found numerous small bunches of dolphin, in scattered streaks of grass, as deep as 200 fathoms, a good number of them gaffers, including one over 30 pounds (on a bailing rod). Great action, with a bonus wahoo and a sailfish release as well. It was a great make-up party!

Fun Day

The ocean remained calm another day, and the fishing was pretty good as well.

The winds were light most of the day, but it was overcast which kept things very comfortable out there. There were a few rain squalls around, but we only got sprinkled on a couple of times. I worked down the beach in some heavy scattered grass, scattered due to the wind direction. It was difficult to fish, but we set our minds on finding dolphin, and thats what we did. We never really found a ''mega school'', but we found lots of small bunches that yielded four or five fish at a time. We changed tactics after bailing 40 - 45 fish, and began to troll for a wahoo. There had been a few bites, so I was optimistic. Right near the end of the day we managed to successfully accomplish our goal, as we landed one wahoo, and missed a second one.

Gorgeous

Today couldn't have been nicer, and the dolphin fishing was exceptional.

My friend Mark brought his ''better half'' for her first offshore fishing trip, and she did great! We bailed a lot of dolphin, our limit, plus several gaffers. No wahoos or anything extra for us to report, but I was so glad to have a perfect day out there. Thanks!

Finally

Posted By Captain Dave in Fishing | Permalink | Comments
After a week off, I couldn't wait to get back offshore.

The report from the last few days was one of great dolphin fishing, so I was excited and positive as we headed offshore. Things started off slow for most everyone, but by the afternoon, some of the boats to the south had found some fairly good dolphin fishing. We found some beautiful conditions, patches of grass, birds, bait, but there didn't seem to be much else with it. I even found a place of 500 birds circling, but we never had a bite around them. We managed to catch close to twenty bailers, and maybe missed one wahoo bite. There was a scattered wahoo caught and one sail.
