Today was windy, as expected, but the fishing was still just as good.

It blew out of the north-northeast 25 plus all day, fortunately there was little current, and the sea conditions were managable. Don't get me wrong, it was still plenty rough. Our first bite of the day was a sailfish, so that was a great start. After that we had lots of wahoo bites, more than yesterday, but with the sea conditions as they were, we had trouble hanging on to a lot of them. We still wound up with seven wahoos and one king mackerel to go along with our sailfish release. It was a great day. I tried to snap a shot to show how windy it was! I have plenty of weekdays open through the fall, so let's go fishing!

The wahoo fishing has been great for the last three days, right on track for September in Hatteras.

Just a quick recap, I didn't fish on Wednesday, but I heard that the wahoos bit pretty good in the afternoon. Yesterday we fished but had remarkably bad luck. We had a handful of wahoo bites, but missed all of them, and only caught one small tuna. Other boats had better luck with the wahoos. Today we got our turn. We got plenty of bites, and held on to our share of them. We landed ten wahoos and a king mackerel. Other than yesterday being rainy, the weather has been pretty nice. It's supposed to be breezy tomorrow, but I think we'll make it.

One thing about nice weather, you can enjoy yourself, even if the fish aren't biting!

Well, we had a few bites this morning, a couple of them were probably wahoos, that we didn't hook, and we did catch a few blackfin tunas. Later, we caught an amberjack over a wreck. Further inshore I found a beautiful grass line, and that's when the action started. I found four big schools of dolphin, in the 4 miles that I fished to the northeast. Do you have any idea how frustrating it is to finally find some fish, and they won't bite? We caught five out of the 500 fish that I saw. Anyway, atleast you know you are getting an accurate report. Fishing was slow. The good news is that it will get better!

The northeast wind felt great, but it didn't seem to do much to help the fishing.

The morning ride out was nice, but the wind breezed up shortly there after, making the ocean a little bumpy. I found a school of nice bailers, but they didn't cooperate too well. We landed nine, a couple of them small gaffers. Soon after that we caught a wahoo. That wrapped us up for the day, but I felt fortunate to have what we did. The winds are supposed to diminish tonight, and tomorrow is supposed to be real nice.

It was a rather rainy day, but it sure was good to have baits out again!

Wahoos were on the top of the menu today, we had eight or nine bites, but only held on to three. There were a few sailfish bites, and a scattered dolphin as well. I always enjoy catching wahoos, so it doesn't take many to make me happy! I snapped a couple of interesting shots through the rain this morning. It never let up until noon. The big news was the phone call I got this afternoon from Andrea (my daughter) announcing that she placed first place, for the biggest fish in the kid's fishing tournament on the Frisco pier (6th-8th grade). Next she informed me that Simon (my son) won first place for the most fish in the kindergarten - 2nd grade group. The tournament is to raise money for the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation. My charter said that my wife must be a better captain than me, because she and the kids caught more fish! Enjoy the pictures!<scri

I have been on another top secret recon mission again, but I can still report about the fishing!

Things slowed down a little this week offshore, not to a dead stop, just a little less action than the week before. Don't misunderstand me, fishing was still pretty good, especially the billfishing. Friday, one boat caught a grand slam, and yesterday only one boat went out, and he caught a blue marlin and a sailfish. I will be working with the same group this week as I did last week, but the last week of September I will be fishing again. I still have one day available that week if anyone needs it. Yesterday was the Hatteras Village ''Day at the Docks'', which is an annual festival/celebration of Hatteras Island's working watermen. It's an all day affair, and is ended with a boat parade of commercial and charter boats, and a ''blessing of the fleet'', by a couple of our islands pastors. It's a great day. Simon, my son, won second place in the kid's fishing tournament, with a 4.2 ounce pinfish! He won a rod and reel. The winds are breezy out of the northeast, which has made things quite cool and comfortable. See you soon!

Only two of us ventured out this morning, and it was pretty choppy.

Fishing seemed to be on the slow side, I'd say for there being only two of us, we covered things pretty well. I don't think either of us had a wahoo bite, and we both wound up with a handful of dolphin and a sailfish release. Jay was going to try to pull the sail in for a picture, but he got off before he had hold of his bill. I snapped a shot as he swam off.

We have been in the ocean the last couple days, but not fishing. I have been hired out for some other activities, but have been listening to the other boats on the radio, and it has sounded pretty good.

Yesterday yielded great catches of dolphin and some wahoo, but the billfish action was the highlight. Mostly sailfish. Today there were a few sails around, but mostly dolphin and wahoo. A few kings as well. The sunrise was interesting this morning, so I thought I'd post another picture of my morning commute. Enjoy!

Today was almost a repeat of yesterday, except we lost the sailfish.

For some reason the dolphins I found this morning were a better class of fish, on an average, than what we would normally see thgis time of year. I found several schools, but the last school was big bailers and small gaffers, and we limited out with 60. We did fight a sailfish for a few minutes before he came aloose, but it was fun while it lasted. There were some wahoo bites around, but we didn't have many, and only caught one, but we were glad to have him! Overall, I'd say it was a terrific day in the blue water!

This group has fished with me for close to 20 years, and has had their share of great fishing trips. Today was right on track.

The wahoos whacked us today, we caught two, but probably had eight or ten bites. The dolphin fishing was good too, all mixed up sizes from ''flip flops'' to nice gaffers. We caught our limit of them (or close enough) along a color change. We also sealed the deal with a sailfish release, which is always a bonus. All in all another great day out on the water!

I have been hired to do some activities other than fishing the last couple days, but the fishing has been so good that I wanted to fill everybody in.

Wahoos have been the special on the menu the last couple days, with a scattered dolphin a nd a pretty good sign of sailfish still. If you have wahoo fishing on your mind, this has been a great year, and so far the last couple weeks have been no disappointment either. September is my favorite month to wahoo fish.
