Outer Banks Fishing ReportMay
17 Fishing was great again today, and the marlin fishing got heated up too.
You never know exactly what you're gonna get when you head offshore. One thing we did know was that it would be choppy. The winds were out of the northwest in the mid to upper twentys, but expected to diminish by the afternoon. Of course, I was looking for the same change I fished yesterday, but the water had blended out everywhere, and I finally set out in 170 fathoms and worked offshore. The water ''blued up'' in about 500 fathoms, and I began to notice some scattered grass. That's when we had our first two bites, a double header blue marlins. Nothing was in our favor for this battle, but somehow we managed to land both fish after a long fight. We released the first one, that we estimated at 400-425 pounds, and the second one, after getting tail wrapped, unfortunately, didn't survive. We boated the fish, and there will be plenty of smoked marlin in PA! The second fish weighed 376 pounds. We caught a half dozen gaffer dolphin in the afternoon, but some of the boats further to the south had some really good dolphin fishing. I heard of some tuna sightings in the afternoon as well.<scrip ![]() ![]() ![]() Fishing Blog Archive
