Outer Banks Fishing ReportApr
12 After a windy and stormy start to the day, we decided to venture out and make an afternoon of it.
It was blowing pretty hard out of the south/southeast this morning, and a pretty strong batch of thunderstorms on the way, so everybody cancelled their trips today. Around 8:30-9:00, the squalls had moved offshore, the wind had subsided somewhat, and my group wanted to give it a try. By the time we got everybody together, it was 10:00, but we were underway. The ride offshore was slow and bumpy, and before we got to the fishing grounds, the wind was back up to 25 out of the southwest. We managed to make a day of it, and one other boat did come out an hour or so after me. With a rough ocean, and not much coverage from a fleet, I scoured a spot called the rockpile for a few hours, but only had a couple bites. We lost a nice fish (probably a tuna) after a 15 minute fight, and caught a wahoo. We had one other strike later that we missed. The other boat fished up to the east, and caught one yellowfin and a couple blackfins. I'm hopeful that tomorrow will be better, weather wise and fishing wise!<scri ![]() Fishing Blog Archive
